Vintage SAN FRANCISCO 49ers Wilson Suspension Helmet

Beautiful and rare San Francisco 49ers game helmet which I believe to be from the 1960s or early 1970's. It's a Wilson suspension model, complete with all padding, thin-mil old-style helmet original face guard and single-hookup chinstrap. It's in excellent condition, and was doubtless repainted and refurbished at some point, which was customary for the team at that time. It was not uncommon for a helmet to be used for several seasons, and passed from player to player. At that time the 49ers wore Wilson helmets, as Riddell did not yet dominate the market, and Wilson helmets were the top of the line.

It was not uncommon for a helmet to be recycled for several years, and to be worn by different players and equipped with appropriate facemasks and chin straps. This one is fitted with the equally rare and quite popular Dungard facemask, with all hardware, including Dungard helmet clips. Wilson 49er helmets are very rarely seen; I've been collecting a long time, and this is only the second one I've ever seen.

The other one was worn by Hall of Fame linebacker Dave Wilcox. This one's in terrific shape and it displays beautifully.
